Ian Smith

About: Ian Smith hangs around at Transmutable and acts like a CTO; strangely, no one has told him to go away. His primary functions seem to be sitting in front of large radiation emitters, banging the home row keys, causing patterns of one and zeroes to be formed, and complaining loudly. This complaining is often related to the quality of tea available to him, but more frequently is about the lack of an old-school, shotgun wedding between software development processes and the needs of actual users. Before his current loitering at Transmutable, he lounged about in Seattle's U-district under the influence of Intel Research. Previously, he ran the idle loop at PARC's Computer Science Lab and in the far distant past he annoyed people in the terminal rooms at Georgia Tech. Georgia Tech asked him to leave in 1998, PARC followed suit in 2003. He may, in fact, have no qualifications whatsoever.

No chance at ALL of this happening. If *you* were an investment banker, would *you* want to be subject to the whims of a fickle market or make bets that can't fail b/c the government knows chaos will ensue if you do?

Ian Smith:

Yeah, I'm in startup land now but keeping one eye on my CHI reviews that are due. :-) Looking forward to chatting with you et al at this event. Anyone else from the "CHI crowd" expected?

Shelly Farnham:

Ian! I'm so glad to see you. I only realized I didn't have your new email when I tried to invite you to this party using your old intel one. How's Transmutable Networks treating you? Can't wait to chat!
